Our country became the first country in the Americas and the second in the world to deposit the instrument.
Chile has taken a significant step in the field of marine conservation by depositing the instrument of ratification of the Biodiversity Conservation Beyond Areas of National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) agreement at the United Nations. This action underscores the country's commitment to the protection of global marine ecosystems.
With this, Chile has become the first country in the Americas and the second in the world to deposit the instrument, which is aligned with the ocean conservation strategy promoted by our country.
A highlight of this decision is Chile's aspiration to make Valparaiso the seat of the treaty's Secretariat. A campaign that reflects the country's desire to play a leading role in international ocean governance and position itself as a leader in marine conservation.
